Memorial Day

Today was busy and fun! (helps make up for yesterday!)
We went to the Diamond Backs game that started at 12:30pm
BOB (as it will always be called by our family, Chase Field just doesn't roll off the tounge as sweetly as BOB) was celebrating our service men and women today. The Blue Star Moms were selling tickets for only $10 for soldiers and their families. We were able to send tons and tons of families to this game for free with all the donations we received from our community.

Anyone who knows my family, knows that I have raised my kids to thank any service member or veteran for their service to our country. We were able to thanks toms of them and their families at the game, it was great! And of course gave out lots of Mom hugs too!

Here's Savannah, James, Jamie and Robbie having fun. They saw me with the camera and looked and smiled...I've trained them well! LOL

I wanted a picture of them watching the game, so I told them to look that direction, so silly James had to make a "wow!" face!!
The D-backs ended up loosing in the 3rd inning of overtime after being ahead by 6 runs earlier in the game, but it was a great game anyway!

At 5:00 pm I had a Blue Star Mom fund raising event to go to. Mrs. Cindy McCain is also a member of our Blue Star Mom group, and with her status was able to get the Brothers at War movie premier here. It was a fund raising event and tickets went from $100 to $5,000, benefiting our "Angel Wings" program. That's a program that will reimburse Arizona soldiers, who are stationed over seas, up to $500 for their airline tickets to come home to visit their families. Those stationed over seas don't always get the advanced notice to get discounted tickets and their air fare is much more expensive. It's a great program! If you know any Arizona soldier that can benefit from this, email me and I can give you all the information!

Lots and lots of soldiers were able to attend free of charge. It was so humbling to be surrounded by all of them and hear their stories, we are so lucky to live in the land of the free, BECAUSE of the brave!Senator John McCain was at the event also. It was neat to get a chance to talk to him and get this picture. He mingled with the soldiers a lot and was able to talk to most of them. It was neat to be able to be in his company with all that his family does for our soldiers!

Actor Gary Sinise was also there, he was the Executive Producer of this documentory. He has a history of helping the American Soldiers! He was very patient with all the people wanting pictures and talking to him. He hugged lots of soldiers and Blue Star Moms, thanking them for their service to our country and us Moms for the things we do to support our soldiers.
Just before the movie started I got a call from Yvonne! It was so great to hear her voice! She's been doing lots of training these past few weeks so calls home have been far and few inbetween. She sounds good and can't wait to see her when she comes home on June 20th and 21st. Unfortunantly she only gets a couple days with us, but we'll take anything we can!!

At the end of the movie, the Blue Star Moms got together and had a group picture. Some weren't able to make the event and some had to leave before the picture was taken, but these are the wonderful Moms who have helped me learn the military lingo so my beautiful daughter doesn't have to constantly remind me...poor girl!

DC Kiddos saying "HI"

How to:

Clear the room of kids.
I have found the FASTEST way to clear to room of kids (older ones whom do chores)
Needed:
Kids who do chores
Cats

Walk in the room...
(make sure you have your "poker face" on)
say, "Eewww, it smells like cat box!"

The room clears instantly! They run in ANY direction they can!
They disappear into the woodwork!

Works like a charm!

(sometimes I do it just for a few moments of peace and quiet)
(will loan out my cats free of charge)

Hint Hint Hint

It'd be awful nice to see a post from my Army Princess!

Mother's Day

I had a wonderful conversation with Yvonne this early morning at about 130 am our time, we got to talk for about 45 mins without interruption! Her Bo, Brett, got on the phone and wished me a happy Mothers Day too!

I got served a wonderful breakfast of eggs, bacon, canadian bacon, sausage, hash browns and milk, on a tray with a red rose in one of my colbalt blue bottles.
Then I opened my gifts,(how spoiled am I!) I got a Cricut Expressions and their new book binding machine!!!

AWESOME!

On Friday evening Robbie had taken me to get a pedicure. He saved his money and paid for it himself! And on top of it, he went with me and took pictures!

I had to laugh a lot cuz my feet are WAY ticklish!!

Yesterday, Robbie and Savannah wanted to go to Michael's and do their free make n' takes
for Mother's day. When we got there poor Samantha (love that girl!) was swamped doing everything by herself! So we stayed and helped.

Savannah caught on super FAST and helped a lot of the kids too!

And of course it was Robbie behind the camera...now that someone else is taking pictures there are pictures of me! Hahaha

What a perfect Mother's Day week!!

Mom's ARE NOT base!

Just for the record...
Mom's (especially me) ARE NOT BASE!!
My kids are, as we speak, running around the island, in the front room, out into the
great room,
AROUND ME,
throwing those soft balls at each other,
trying their hardest to avoid hitting me or my laptop!!

They didn't do a good job at it though!

Savannah seems to be the one getting beamed at the moment,
since she is the one running by me, grabbing on for dear life and
saying...

"can't get MOM!!"

as Jamie waits patiently on the sidelines trying to catch his breath!

GREAT...now Robbie is rolling up some cardboard
into a fairly large tube...
(wonder what he's gonna do with that)

nevermind...Jamie stole in and is now chasing Savannah, wait, now caught her
and is beating her and Robbie with it as he is trying to save her.

OK...wacks are coming way too close to me!

Maybe I'll take them swimming so they can burn some of that energy....
if they survive each other.

Savannah + Treasurer = Cents

Savannah decided to run for Treasurer in 6th grade!
She's pretty excited about it.

She worked hard on her posters and her sweet brothers helped too.
(could'nt for the life of me, figure our how to rotate these pictures!)

Good luck on your speech today sweetie, wish I could have been there in the audience for you.
One of the gals I babysit for is a teacher there and one of the sweetest ladies I know with a huge heart. She sat down with Savannah this morning and told her that when she goes on stage to find her and focus on her. Read her speech directly to her that way she won't see everyone in the crowd. How sweet she is! Thanks Joanna for loving my kids!

Getting Prepared

In my efforts to get prepared for this Pandemic of Swine Flu, I remember that our Prophets tell us to have a 3 month supply of everything. Food, water, medicine, etc. Well, I have been working on this little by little and I feel good about what I've been able to get. Although I haven't been able to find any N95 masks...I think they are all sold out everywhere!! A good friend of mine, Michelle, sent me this link to an awesome little story. The confirmation of the importance of preparing is reassuring me in my efforts to get my family (the most precious thing I have) prepared.

When the Wind Blows

Years ago a farmer who owned land along the Atlantic seacoast constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic because of the awful storms that raged across the Atlantic, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops. As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of refusals.

Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached the farmer. "Are you a good farmhand?" the farmer asked him.

"Well, I can sleep when the wind blows," answered the little man.

Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired him. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and the farmer was well satisfied with the man's work.

Then one night the wind howled loudly in from offshore.
Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hand's sleeping quarters. He shook the little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away!"

The little man rolled over in bed and said firmly, "No sir. I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows.."

Enraged by the response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on the spot. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm.
To his amazement, he discovered that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins. The cows were in the barn, the chickens were in the coops, the doors were barred, the shutters were tightly secured, everything was tied down. Nothing could blow away.

The farmer then understood what his hired hand meant, so he returned to his bed to also sleep while the wind blew.

MORAL: When you're prepared, spiritually, mentally, and physically, you have nothing to fear.

Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life? The hired hand in the story was able to sleep because he had secured the farm against the storm.

We, as believers in Christ, secure ourselves against the storms of life by grounding ourselves in the Word of God.. We don't need to understand, we just need to hold His hand to have peace in the midst of the storms.
